How it's earned — four gates
Complete the COACH Masterclass
All 7 video modules on the five-step COACH framework: Come Prepared → Open → Ask → Confirm → Hardwire.
Pass the scenario exam
20 scenario-judgment questions — real manager situations, "what's the next best COACH move?" 80% to pass. It tests judgment, not recall.
Run 5 real coaching conversations
After each real conversation, you submit a structured written debrief. It's reviewed and scored against the rubric within a minute, and you get written coaching feedback on your coaching — deliberate practice with a reviewer in the loop. The final conversation is a capstone that must include what actually changed two weeks later.
Attest and claim your credential
You personally attest every documented conversation was real — the attestation appears on your public verification page, with your name behind it.
Paced with real practice: up to 2 conversation debriefs per week, with the capstone opening 14days in — so you're certified in about three weeks, with five real reps behind you and results you can point to.
The published standard
Every debrief is scored on these 7 dimensions. A credential is only as credible as its standard — so ours is public.
Behavior specificity
Names ONE specific, observable behavior — not a personality trait, an attitude, or a vague theme. “Interrupted the client three times in Tuesday's call”, not “needs better communication skills”.
Preparation (Come Prepared)
Shows the manager defined what they observed AND what good looks like before the conversation — an objective standard, not a feeling.
Developmental opening (Open)
Opened with genuine strength/relationship reinforcement so the conversation reads as growth, not judgment or ambush.
Explored their view first (Ask)
Asked the person's perspective before giving their own; the debrief contains what the person actually said, in substance.
One change, one standard (Confirm)
A single agreed behavior change with an objective standard for success — mutually confirmed, not imposed as a list of five things.
Hardwired follow-through (Hardwire)
A concrete SMART-style action plan: what they'll practice, what support the manager provides, and a scheduled check-in date.
Honest self-reflection
A real, specific answer to “what would I do differently” — evidence of the manager coaching themselves, not “nothing, it went great”.
Every credential is verifiable
Each certificate carries a permanent ID and a public verification page (thecoachconversation.com/verify/…) stating exactly what was required to earn it — so a recruiter, hiring manager, or your boss can check it in one click. Credentials never expire. The first 50 graduates carry a permanent Founding Cohort mark.
